Skaneateles, NY - The award-winning documentary "Duk County", which chronicles the story of doctors, including several from Central New York doctors, on medical missions that brought vision to 586 blind men, women and children in South Sudan, will be shown at the Skaneateles Country Club on Sept. 29 to raise funds for the John Dau Foundation.

The documentary received the "Moving Mountains Award" and "Norman Vaugh Indomitable Spirit Award" at the 2013 Telluride Film Festival.

The September 29 preview begins with a reception at 4 p.m. and continues with the documentary showing at 5 p.m.

Dau and others involved in the clinic's growth, including Medical Directors Dr. Barbara Connor and Dr. David Reed, Executive Director Dan Pisegna, Skaneateles' First Presbyterian Church pastor Reverend Dr. Craig Lindsey, will join in the discussions and presentation.

Skaneateles officials will also participate. Skaneateles was named as a Sister City to Duk Payuel, the South Sudanese community where the Duk Lost Boys Clinic is located.

The cost is $35 per person for the viewing and reception including refreshments. A cash bar will be available. Reservations may be made online at www.johndaufoundation.org or by mailing a check to Box 503, Skaneateles, New York 13152. Tickets will also be available at the door on September 29.

The John Dau Foundation headquartered in Skaneateles was created in 2004 to bring basic health services, such as immunizations, maternity, hygiene and nutritional counseling, to the South Sudanese people. The mission took root in 2001 when the First Presbyterian Church of Skaneateles sponsored the relocation of four Lost Boys of Sudan to Central New York.

Dau was one of those boys. He now serves as president of the foundation that oversees the 6-year-old Duk Lost Boys Clinic, which is now the county hospital for Duk County, Sudan. The clinic is the primary medical facility for 66,000 people in the remote region.
