BOR October 12, 2012 (Borglobe) – in Jonglei State, the two primary schools of young girls of Black Eagle Academy and Royal Junior campaigned for the promotion of girl child education in their Primary schools at Bor. “I am here to talk about the child rights education which are the only problems we are suffering from our parents, we are treated badly and we need to be treated equally with boys because as we girls at home with brothers, our brothers are taken to school meanwhile we left at home to work as housegirl which is totally bad.” A girl from Royal Junior Academy, Nicole Gong Chol said.
Regularly some of the girls who are now schooling have been given a limited time to study in the school and if the go back home they are forced to work for home affairs, leading to no good time for them to study at home.
“If we go home at late hours, our mothers force us to do the home’s affairs and this gives us no room to compete with boys in the school. In this case some of the girls which are over worked by their parents feel hopeless in staying in school. More work at home is discouraging.” Gong said
“The only thing we are telling our parents is to treat us equally with the boys at home because we girls have equal talents like the boy, example, like in Werrap state Governor Nyandeng Malek who holds a big position of governorship." She said.
“We are telling them so that they can be having vision to know that tomorrow we are going to be like Nyandeng if they encourage us to continue with our education.” Nicole added.
"According to our cultural rules they said that boy should not do anything at home, even though it is a washing of the clothes, they said that a boy is not supposed to wash clothes as it is the girl work. The boys just relax at home, what he does is to play games.” She complained.
Most of the girls which have been forced to early marriages in Royal Junior Academy this year are not more 15 in a number. “The girls which were forced to get married in our schools are not more than 15 and they were ordered to get married by parents even our school head-girl was forced also by parents.” She said.
"Our parents are the cattle lovers but I do not know why our parents like cows? Cows can die but education can not die. Education is a very long way of life then cows, you might be having hundreds of cows in a year but in a second year a cow’s owner might own nothing. So I think they need to quote one out of these two things.” Achol Kang Aluong from Black eagle Academy said.
“We are telling our parents to put hearts normally and wait for our education because if we finished the education we will give them more wealth then the cows they are looking after right now. If they wait and feel at home.” Achol Kang said.
